Recycling & Waste

The City of Chisago City values our natural resources.  We encourage residents and businesses to participate in recycling programs that are available to you.  Visit Chisago County's website for more information on recycling.

 

 Who picks up my refuse?

The majority of Chisago City contracts with one refuse hauler, Croix Valley Pick-up.  Call them at 651-257-6316 to set up service or for billing questions.

 Do you offer curbside recycling?

Yes.  Chisago City’s refuse hauler, Croix Valley Pick-up, offers curbside recycling.  Check their website for acceptable items and pick-up schedules.

 Where is the nearest compost site?

Chisago City's compost site is located at the Chisago Lakes Joint Wastewater Treatment site off County Road 24, 31501 Lofton Avenue North, in Chisago City.  The site is open from mid-April through mid-November, weather permitting.  Hours are:
 
Wednesdays: 2 PM - 7 PM (or until dusk in the fall) | Saturdays: 9 AM - 4 PM | Sundays: 1 PM - 4 PM  
  

Residents within the City limits of Chisago City, Lindstrom, Wyoming, and Stacy may compost leaves, grass clippings, and brush (up to 3" diameter) at no charge.  Persons will be asked for identification (Drivers License, Sewer & Water Bill and/or Tax Statement) showing their street address and name.  Anyone without identification will be charged a fee.  No Commercial Lawn Services, Tree Services, Landscaping Services, or Commercial Businesses will be permitted to haul to or from the site.   Non-city residents, such as Chisago Lakes Township, Wyoming Township, Franconia Township, Center City, and Shafer may also use the facility.  A compost fee of $0.50 per bag will be charged.  Pick-up and trailer loads will be charged accordingly. 

Officials operating the Compost Site remind the public that the Composting Site is CLOSED during inclement/rainy weather to protect the access roads within the Site.   (During prolonged or wet weather, persons have been stuck at this site.)

 Where do I dispose of household hazardous waste?

Protect our environment by disposing of household hazardous waste (HHW) properly.  Chisago County’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility is located in North Branch. Visit their website for hours of operation and items accepted.
